SHILLONG, June 1: Meghalaya recorded a significant rise in its State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) collections in May 2026, with pre-settlement SGST revenue increasing by 43 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to the latest GST revenue figures released by the government.
The state’s pre-settlement SGST collection rose from Rs 49 crore in May 2025 to Rs 70 crore in May 2026. After the settlement of the SGST portion of Integrated GST (IGST), Meghalaya’s post-settlement SGST revenue increased from Rs 137 crore to Rs 163 crore, registering a 19 per cent growth.
The cumulative figures for the financial year up to May 2026 also showed positive growth. Meghalaya’s pre-settlement SGST collection increased from Rs 168 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 171 crore in 2025-26, reflecting a 2 per cent growth. Post-settlement SGST revenue rose from Rs 333 crore to Rs 383 crore, marking a 15 per cent increase.
However, overall GST revenue collections in Meghalaya witnessed a decline in May 2026. The state’s total GST revenue stood at Rs 182 crore, down from Rs 210 crore recorded in May 2025, representing a 13 per cent decrease.
Despite the dip in overall GST collections, the growth in SGST revenues, particularly after IGST settlements, indicates an improvement in the state’s share of GST receipts and reflects the impact of inter-state tax settlements on Meghalaya’s revenue position.
Among the northeastern states, Meghalaya posted one of the strongest growth rates in pre-settlement SGST collections during May 2026.
