SHILLONG, June 5: BJP senior leader and MLA, A.L. Hek has acknowledged the need for the party to quickly settle on its nominee for the Shillong Parliamentary by-election, asserting that the decision can no longer be delayed.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Hek said the party was under pressure to finalise its choice as time was running short. He revealed that nine aspirants had applied for the BJP ticket and that the party leadership would meet next week to narrow down the field and select its candidate.
“We have to decide now. Time is running out,” Hek said, adding that the BJP had not yet zeroed in on any of the contenders despite receiving as many as applications for the party ticket.
