SHILLONG, June 8: Love at First Sight, a biography authored by Dilip R Marak, was released at the author’s residence in Sunny Hills, New Tura, recently.
According to a statement here, the book was formally launched by Dr Crystal Cornelious D Marak, secretary of the A•chik Literature Society (ALS), in the presence of writers, academicians, and family members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Marak noted that biographies provide essential insights into individual lives and the social environments of their time.
He stated that such works preserve stories of resilience and dedication for future generations and suggested that translating the work into Garo would further enrich local literature.
Addressing the gathering as the guest of honour, Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tura, principal Sengjrang N Sangma remarked that literary contributions through books create a lasting legacy.
On the other hand, Rev. Nicky N Sangma, Pastor of Tura Baptist Church, delivered a message on the importance of cherishing life’s moments.
It may be mentioned that the book is Dilip R Marak’s first English publication and chronicles the life of his long-time friend, Ambrose T. Sangma. Both men dedicated their careers to the Education department, serving as headmasters.
“The biography that Dilip penned for his close friend, Ambrose T Sangma, stands out not only for its personal significance but also for its sensitive portrayal of a profound romantic relationship. In Love at First Sight, Marak vividly depicts the enduring love shared between Ambrose and his wife, Batildha. Their deep affection, described with sensitivity and admiration, reflects a rare and lasting bond,” the statement said.
“Dilip R Marak is a literary-minded writer whose work employs a variety of narrative techniques and styles to portray human emotions in diverse situations. The language used in the biography is elevated and expressive, adding depth to the narrative and enhancing its literary appeal,” it added.
It may be mentioned that Marak, who retired as Sub-Divisional School Education Officer in 2018, is also an avid photographer and trekker.
