SHILLONG, June 8: The High Court of Meghalaya on Monday took on record a fresh status report submitted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the NH-6 Jowai–Ratacherra section, detailing work carried out up to June 5, 2026.
The report included photographs showing progress on micropiling works and the construction of retaining walls aimed at preventing landslides.
During the hearing, the bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh noted that concerns had earlier been raised regarding the poor condition of certain road stretches with large potholes.
The state government informed the court that the concerned section is maintained by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and not the Public Works Department (PWD).
Following the submission, the court added NHIDCL as a respondent and issued notice to the agency, returnable within three weeks.
The court also directed that NHIDCL be informed of the next hearing date so that it can depute an advocate to represent it.
NHAI sought six weeks’ time to complete ongoing works, including micropiling and retaining wall construction. The court granted three weeks and directed NHAI to submit a fresh status report on the next date of hearing on July 2, 2026.
