Group seeks strict protocols for NEET, flags past administrative lapses

TURA, June 19: The ADE Apex Committee has petitioned the Director of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to ensure strict adherence to protocols for the upcoming NEET-UG examinations on Sunday, while citing previous instances of administrative mismanagement in the region. In an appeal submitted through the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the association noted that during the previous NEET-UG examination, several invigilators arrived late at centres. This, the organisation added, resulted in attendance verification and other formalities continuing well after the exam had started, thereby causing significant stress and depriving students of valuable writing time. “Many candidates also reported that they were unable to utilise the full examination duration effectively due to delays and repeated interruptions related to administrative procedures inside the examination hall,” it added. To prevent a recurrence, the ADE has urged the NTA to ensure that all staff report to their respective centres at least 30 minutes before the start of the examination. It also demanded that all signature collections and document checks be completed before the commencement of the test to avoid any disturbances once the paper begins.

City muster roll workers asked to attend meeting on Monday

SHILLONG, June 19: Muster roll workers from various government departments in Shillong have been urged to attend a meeting aimed at strengthening workers’ welfare and representation. The appeal was made by Nazarius K. Lanong during a press conference held at the Shillong Press Club on Friday. Lanong was accompanied by fellow muster roll workers and members of the All Meghalaya Progressive Workers’ Union (AMPWU). During the conference, he announced that a meeting of muster roll workers would be held at 12 noon on Monday at the Khasi National Darbar Hall to focus on the proposal to establish a dedicated unit for muster roll workers in Shillong. According to Lanong, similar units have already been formed in areas such as Nongpoh, Pynursla and Garo Hills, where they have helped workers address common challenges and concerns. He stated that the proposed unit would work for the welfare and betterment of muster roll workers and provide a platform through which their issues could be collectively addressed. Emphasising the importance of participation, he noted that workers attending the meeting would help form a board of members responsible for carrying out the unit’s official activities. Lanong called upon all muster roll workers in the state capital to join the initiative and work together with the AMPWU to promote their rights, welfare and interests through a united and organised body.
