eng VS NZ | 3rD TEST

Nottingham, June 25: New Zealand seized control of the decisive third Test against England on the opening day at Trent Bridge, reaching 361 for four after centuries from Tom Latham and Devon Conway put the visitors firmly on top.
After winning the toss on a scorching day in Nottingham, New Zealand’s openers made the most of ideal batting conditions, sharing a record 317-run stand — the Black Caps’ highest partnership for any wicket against England in Test cricket.
Latham struck 151 while Conway made 157, with the pair frustrating England’s bowlers for most of the day. The hosts were also left to rue missed opportunities in the field, including a dropped chance offered by Latham and a missed appeal against Conway earlier in his innings.England finally broke through when captain Ben Stokes, back in charge after missing the second Test, dismissed Latham. Conway followed soon after, falling to Joe Root after another superb knock. The home side, however, gained some late momentum with two wickets in the closing moments of play. Gus Atkinson removed Rachin Ravindra, who miscued a shot to hand England a breakthrough, before Jofra Archer struck with the final ball of the day to dismiss Henry Nicholls.Despite the late setbacks, New Zealand ended the day in a commanding position, with England facing a challenging task to stay in contention in a match they must avoid losing to prevent conceding the series.
The late wickets offered England a glimmer of hope after a difficult day in the field. (Agencies)
