SHILLONG, July 6: A sensational social media message accusing a Shillong youth of sexually exploiting multiple young women has gone viral and is being widely shared across Shillong, sparking widespread public fury and demands for immediate justice even though no formal complaint has been lodged by the alleged victim(s).
A photograph of the alleged accused has been circulating rapidly on various social media platforms, with posts branding him a serial predator and demanding accountability for the alleged victims.
When contacted on Monday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that police are aware of the posts and the photograph being circulated online.
“We have seen the picture of the alleged accused. The girl does not want to file an FIR. We are enquiring into this,” the SP said.
The viral message alleged that the youth had sexually exploited several young women over a period of time and had allegedly intimidated some of them by threatening to leak their private videos. The post further claimed that one of the alleged victims became pregnant and urged the public to spread awareness so that the alleged victims could obtain justice, as outrage continues to mount across the city.
