New Delhi, July 21: As India gears up for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the country will look to build on its impressive performance from the previous edition, where it finished with a rich haul of 61 medals at the Birmingham Games in 2022.
India ended the campaign with 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals, securing fourth place in the overall standings. Wrestling emerged as the nation’s most successful discipline, contributing 12 medals, including six gold, one silver and five bronze.Weightlifting was another major contributor with 10 medals comprising three gold, three silver and four bronze. Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu became India’s first gold medallist of the Games after clinching the women’s 49kg title, while Sanket Sargar opened India’s medal account with a silver in the men’s 55kg weightlifting event.Athletics enjoyed one of its best Commonwealth campaigns, collecting eight medals—one gold, four silver and three bronze—while boxing delivered seven medals, including three gold, one silver and three bronze.Badminton added six medals to India’s tally, with three gold, one silver and two bronze, while table tennis returned with five medals, including three gold, one silver and one bronze.
Judo produced three medals, all silver and bronze, while lawn bowls created history with India’s maiden gold in the sport and finished with two medals overall.
