Mumbai, July 21: Indian quarter-miler Vishal TK is aiming for a strong debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after a breakthrough season that established him among the country’s leading sprint talents.
The 22-year-old created history earlier this year by becoming the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m, setting a national record of 44.98 seconds. A four-time national champion, Vishal also played a key role in India’s relay success at the Asian Athletics Championships, winning gold in the mixed 4x400m relay and silver in the men’s 4x400m relay.
“I’m entering the Commonwealth Games with the mindset to win. My focus is on giving my best and making India proud,” Vishal said.
He credited his coach Jason Dawson and the Inspire Institute of Sport for helping him prepare for elite competition, adding that consistency, discipline and self-belief have been the cornerstones of his success.
Vishal said representing India remains his greatest motivation and believes the current generation of Indian quarter-milers is raising the standard of athletics in the country.
“Wearing the Indian jersey means carrying the hopes of millions. Every time I step on the track, I compete with pride and responsibility,” he added. (IANS)
