SHILLONG, July 26: Assam Rifles hosted the screening of Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History at the Directorate General Assam Rifles (HQ DGAR) in Laitkor on Saturday.
Conceptualised by Vibha Lakhera, founder of Project Empathy, and directed by Parasher Baruah, the documentary explores the oral traditions, resilience and cultural heritage of the Naga people.
By featuring the voices of both community elders and the younger generation, the film focuses on reconciliation and the preservation of indigenous roots.
The event also featured the first public performance of the song ‘Walk With Me’ by the Assam Rifles Public School Choir. Derived from the broader Naga Oral History Project, the song is being promoted as India’s Empathy Anthem, intended to inspire compassion and solidarity across the country.
Following the screening, Lakhera spoke on the power of storytelling to build social cohesion and mutual understanding.
The programme was attended by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Air Command, as the Chief Guest, alongside Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, DG Assam Rifles.
Senior officers from the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, students and members of the public were also present.
