NEW DELHI: Apprehending stiff opposition from all over the country, the ruling BJP is now mulling ban on cow slaughter through a private member Bill in Parliament, Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, said.

Pala is concerned over the private member bill introduced on the floor of the Lok Sabha for discussion. He quoted a letter from the Government which recommended that Cow Protection Authority Bill, 2014, by BJP MP from Maharashtra , Hansraj Gangaram Ahir be considered under article 117 (3) of the Constitution.

Pala said that the ruling party is wary of the repercussions of such a controversial step and hence adopting this circuitous method.

Pala had moved a private members bill opposing any ban on cow slaughter in the country which he felt will not only create a food crisis but also deal a big blow to the fundamental rights of the minorities.
