Shillong: The Lapalang Village Council, located in the East Khasi Hills stretch of the India-Bangladesh border, in an emergent Dorbar called on Thursday resolved to take all measures concerning their safety even if it involves shooting with license guns or attacking Bangladeshis who enter Indian Territory with the intent of stealing their boulders, forest materials and produces from the villagers’ orchards.

Taking strong cognizance of the incident on Thursday when three Bangladeshi intruders attacked an Indian national on the bank of the Borhill river along the zero line of the border and chopped off his hands, the Lapalang Village Council resolved to pay back, either by shooting Bangladeshis who enter Indian territory or getting involved in counter attacks.

“We want peace but at the same time we are prepared to defend ourselves and our land from the Bangladeshi infiltrators,” residents of Lapalang Village said in one voice.

Reacting to queries Rangbah Shnong of Lapalang village, Oberness Marsynting, attributed the frequent infiltration bids by Bangladeshi national to the impoverished population in that country and the lethargic BSF ground troops who fail to check such incidents.

He also informed that despite continuous warnings Bangladeshi infiltrators keep on crossing over to the Indian Territory forcing the villagers to shoot two infiltrators who were attempting to steal boulders and other produces from the orchards.
