NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) on Wednesday warned of stern action against non-tribal businessmen who were misusing land meant for industrial units for other purposes and also for violation of the Land Transfer Act, 1971.

“We have reliable information that a non-tribal person has purchased plots of land at Byrnihat despite restrictions on sale of land to non-tribal persons possibly due to his close connections with those at the helm of affairs,” RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew said.

Thangkhiew said that the State Government has been provided assistance to non-tribal people for setting up factories in the State by providing land to them, and added that the government should put a condition that if the non-tribal person fails to run the factory or industry or winds up his business the land should be returned to the government.
