Govt mulls regulatory board for schools

SHILLONG: The State government is contemplating to constitute a regulatory board for schools.
Indicating this, Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo on Friday said that till date regulatory boards exist only for colleges and universities.
Prof Laloo, who holds Education portfolio, said this while speaking at the 35th coral anniversary of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association here on Friday.
Prof Laloo informed the gathering that his department was planning to open one secondary school under deficit system in each district to tackle the problem of school dropout.
He said that the issues of the teachers were being examined by the Government and “the department wants to carry along the teaching community in its bid to improve the education scenario in the state.”
Addressing the gathering, Director of School Education and Literacy, Ambrose Marak said the department is focusing on human capital development and  he assured cooperation in settling the grievances of the teachers.

Prof Laloo  was unwilling to take charge of education dept

SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo has revealed that he was reluctant to take charge of Education department and he even had made his position known to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
“But, nobody listened to me and I had to take charge of the department,” Prof Laloo, who holds education portfolio, said this while speaking at the 35th coral anniversary of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) here on Friday.
