Pakistan, China discuss socio-economic cooperation

Islamabad: Pakistani and Chinese officials have met in Beijing to discuss cooperation in the socio-economic sector, a media report said.

Farzana Raja, chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, met Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin Friday, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

The Chinese official appreciated the efforts of the support programme regarding poverty alleviation in Pakistan, and assured that Beijing would continue supporting Islamabad as their “friendship is everlasting”.

He said China would encourage its business and corporate sector to invest in Pakistan.

The Chinese minister lauded the efforts and sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terror.

Pakistan was a frontline state in the global war on terror and has suffered a lot because of this, he said.

The two officials also discussed Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s upcoming visit to China, scheduled for Aug 30-Sep 1. (IANS)
