TURA: Close on the heels of the State Police accusing the A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) of killing Akbar Ali, a trader from Krishnai in Assam besides causing injuries to two others at Wageasi in North Garo Hills on October 10, the outfit’s general secretary, Niksamso Matgrik has denied his outfit’s involvement in the crime and claimed that the police statement was the outcome of its inefficiency in properly verifying the facts.

On the claim of police that AMEF cadre Goran and Niksrang with their men had again on October 11 kidnapped one, Sopon Rabha and his driver, Niksamso alleged that that too was merely guess work on the part of the police and no closer to the truth as according to him Goran and his men did not operate in North Garo Hills. However, on the police claim that senior leader and one of the co-founders of AMEF, Jack Marak, who was earlier with the GNLA had carried out the abduction of PK Boro, the then BDO of Dadenggre, Niksamso admitted that that was true but claimed there was a hidden agenda behind the abduction.

“The abduction was carried out to show our strength to the government. Operations against the GNLA had been intensified during that time. It was only to dissuade the government from continuing further with operations against the GNLA that Boro was abducted,” Niksamso said and claimed that not a single paise was taken in return for his release.

Meanwhile, a senior police official reiterated that the police have evidence to establish that the trader from Assam was killed by AMEF and the group was involved in a kidnapping case on October 11 .
