Kathmandu: At least six people were killed on Thursday when a passenger bus they were travelling in plunged into a river in western Nepal.
The incident took place when the ill-fated bus, carrying over 45 passengers, veered off a narrow stretch in Jajarkot district’s mountainous region and fell in Bheri river this morning, Himalayan Times reported. Several divers swung into action for the rescue of trapped passengers as the bus dipped under water. Security personnel were heading towards the spot to carry out rescue and relief operation.
Police said five bodies were fished out of the river so far as search operation was on. Over 10 injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital by the police. Road accidents are on rise in Nepal as more than 62 people have died in five separate accidents in the last one month.
Bad roads, driver’s negligence, over speed and overloading were the main reasons behind these accidents, police said. (PTI)
