SHILLONG: The Hotel Pinewood authorities have clarified that it is misleading to say that the hotel does not have an emergency light. It is a different matter that the occupant did not know where the switch for the emergency light was located.

“We are disappointed to see the report which mentioned that the hotel does not have an emergency lamp in place. The report was referring to particular incident where the room was occupied by former Union Home Secretary which was plunged into darkness on account of power failure on Sunday evening,” the Hotel Pinewood general manager said.He said that emergency lights have been installed in all the rooms in the hotel, adding that hotel guests only require to switch on the respective line in case the regular power supply goes off.About the brochures on Meghalaya, the Manager, P Das said they have been kept near to the reception and it is for tourists/hotel guests to pick them up.Das further said that it would be absurd to expect a waiter who was semi-literate to give the correct information about the various places of importance in the State.

Das was reacting to ‘Shillong Jottings’ (ST Aug 29, 2011) where it was mentioned that a guest asked a not –so-well-informed waiter where Sohra is and the waiter had replied that it is near Cherrapunjee.

Later the guest asked which district Sohra was in and the waiter was informed enough to whisper that Sohra is in East Khasi Hills.
