1 shot dead, 2 injured for objecting to bike stunts
Meerut:One person was shot dead and two others were injured after a bike-bourne assailant allegedly opened fire for raising an objection to the latter’s stunts performed on a roadside in Parikshitgarh district here, police said on Tuesday. The incident happened on Monday when the three accused identified, as Ravi (22), Devendra (27) and Sumit(25), were stopped by the victims from performing stunts near Parikshitgarh district bus stand here, Police Superintendent Captain M M Baig said. One of the bike-bourne assailant opened fire on them killing Ravi on the spot and injuring two others, he said. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, Baig said. An FIR against the accused has been lodged by the victim’s family member, police said adding that the matter is under investigation. (PTI)
Married woman commits suicide
Bundi:A married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house after an altercation with her husband in Hindoli area of the district, police said on Tuesday. Manjubai (35), an Auxiliary Nursing Midwife at a Public Health Centre, was married to Satayanarayan Meena in 1994. For the past few days the husband and wife were fighting with each other over some domestic issue. Mnajubai took the extreme step last evening when nobody was at home, SHO Gyanchand Meena said. A case under section 306 of IPC (for abetment to suicide) against Satayanarayan, who is alcoholic, has been registered after the victim’s father lodged a complaint, they said, adding a probe was on in the case. 250 fall ill after suspected food poisoning
Baghpat:About 250 people were taken ill after consuming food in a pre-wedding function in Ladhvadi village under Kotwali police station area here, police said on Tuesday. The guests who consumed food served in the ‘sagai’ function of Sudhir’s son in the village complained of vomiting and diarrhea and were rushed to different hospitals and nursing homes, police said. About 200 of them were discharged later in the night while 50 of them were still undergoing treatment in various hospitals but were stated to be out of danger, police said. The district administration has termed the incident as that of food poisoning. Meanwhile, District Magistrate K Dhanlaxmi has ordered an inquiry and constituted a team of health and food department officials in this connection to go into the details of the incident.(PTI)
Man held for driving wife to suicide
Thane:A 35-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife at a village here, police said on Tuesday. Archana Pawar (30), wife of Dahagaon resident Ananta Pawar, had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on November 25, Sahapur police station sub-inspector K D Muthe said. That time, police registered a case of accidental death. However, a probe later revealed that the woman’s husband, who is a habitual drinker, used to have frequent quarrels with her. He also used to beat her up and doubted her character, the police officer said. Subsequently, an offence was registered against the woman’s husband last night under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC and he was arrested on Tuesday, police added. (PTI)
Stepfather rapes minor girl for one year
Hyderabad: A 14-year-old school girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather over the past one year in Medchal area of neighbouring Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, police said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Chandra (in his mid 30s) allegedly sexually assaulted the teenager, a class VII student, over the past one year following which she became pregnant, said Inspector of Medchal police station K Shashank Reddy quoting the complaint. while refusing to elaborate on whether the accused has been arrested and when the complaint was lodged. A case of rape under Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered in this connection, Reddy added. (PTI)
