SHILLONG: Four members of the Shillong Lajong FC youth team have been selected for training at the Bayern Munich Club Academy in Germany.

The four-Ram Chhetri (14), Suman Rai (both from Sikkim), Jacob Lalrawngbawla (16), (Mizoram) and Donbor Nongkynrih (15) from Meghalaya would be training for about a fortnight with the German club.

The four would leave on July 19th.

Meanwhile, to scout talent in the under-14 and under-16 categories, the Lajong FC would start its pre-season camp on Monday.

The camp will be followed by a trip around the North East where the club’s first stop would be for the Independence Day Celebration Football Tournament to be held in Aizawl,Mizoram from August 8.

Disclosing this to the press on Friday, Shillong Lajong coach Pradhyum Reddy said that the North East trip would be a multi-pronged tour which would include a camp to scout talents in the under-14 and under-16 categories as well as to set up a scouting network in the region.

“Our north east trip would also be an exercise to expand our fan base in the region,” Reddy added.

The Lajong coach also informed that the Asian quota for Lajong FC would be filled soon while adding that they have called two players, who play in the J-League and the K-League, for trials.

“Their passports were not a ticket to their being selected in to the club,” said Reddy

“Big names do not matter to the team.”

“What we need are players who can adjust to the system in the club and also gel with other members of the team accordingly,” added Reddy.

The Lajong coach also said that the main concern for the team management was to find the right combinations and balance on the field.
