Fisheries research centre in Ri Bhoi

 SHILLONG: The Department of Fisheries, with an aim to enhance the capacities of the fish farmers of Meghalaya on various modern technologies and methods of fish farming, fish seed production, fish production in ponds and tanks, management of hatcheries, etc., has established a Research & Training Institute, to be known as the Meghalaya State Fisheries Research & Training Institute (MSFRTI) at Mawpun in Ri Bhoi District.

The Institute has dormitory facility for the farmers and a capacity to train 80 farmers at a time. The Institute also has a Fibre-reinforced plastic hatchery which has the capacity to produce one million fingerlings.

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma will inaugurate MSFRTI at a function to be held at Mawpun on Thursday at 11 AM.

The Institute was constructed with the funding support received from the Ministry of Agriculture, under RKVY.
