Assault of scribes: Media boycott Assam Rifles news

Imphal: Media organisations of Manipur have started boycott of news of Assam Rifles for alleged assault of two scribes.
A team of scribes who were reporting an attack on Manipur Police personnel by miscreants at the border town of Moreh on February 2 were told by Assam Rifles personnel to stop reporting the incident.
Bureau Chief of Impact TV, Noren Ningombam and his cameraperson K Bipin Sharma were told by a team of AR led by Commanding officer of 9 Assam Rifles (AR) Col Anandi Antare not to take the report and beat them up badly. All the personal belongings including mobile phones, cameras were also taken away by Assam Rifles troops.
Editors’ Guild has asked the authority to transfer the AR officer and boycott all AR related news.
The Standing Committee of All Manipur working Journalists Union (AMWJU ) also decided to boycott all Assam Rifles related news and urged the Press Council of India to take up appropriate action.
The highway leading to the border town was opened after a long protest against activities of Assam Rifles who do not allow movement of vehicles after 1800 hrs and few jawans checked hundreds of vehicles for hours resulting in complete stoppage of movement on the highway. (UNI)
