NGT ban: KHADC to approach SC

SHILLONG: The KHADC along with the Hima Nongstoin Land Owners’ Coal Traders’ & Producer’s Association will approach Supreme Court with regard to the NGT ban on coal mining in the state.
This was informed by KHADC CEM PN Syiem.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting organized by the Hima Nongstoin Land Owners’ Coal Traders’ & Producer’s Association,  the CEM said, “The KHADC will file an affidavit as a pro forma response so that suggestions put forth by us regarding traditional coal mining practices are highlighted again.”
“We will depute officers and EMs for a proper consultation with lawyers of Supreme Court so that whatever follows are according to the customary practices of the people of the State and it covers all issues pertaining to coal mining and environment,” Syiem said.
He has appealed to the State Government to speed up the process of formulating the all important mining policy.
A large number of coal miners from Khasi -Jaintia Hills including Shahlang, Borsora, Sohra attended the meeting,
