Over 3 lakh households in State get electricity

SHILLONG: The Centre’s rural household electrification programme has illuminated around 3.24 lakh households in the State.
The official statistics of the Union Government say that 69.92 per cent of the households in Meghalaya have been electrified.
As per statistics, 31,226 of the total 59,010 households spread over 1,077 habitations in East Garo Hills have been electrified taking the percentage to 52.92.
In East Khasi Hills, 73,279 of the total 92,847 households across 921 habitations have been electrified thus ensuring 78.92 per cent coverage.
Ri Bhoi district with a habitation of 591 has 45,975 households and 32,699 have been electrified making it a 71.12 per cent coverage.
Similarly, 50.85 per cent of the households in South Garo Hills have been electrified with 12,886 electrified households out of 25,340 getting power connections.
In West Garo Hills, 86,603 of 113,935 households have been electrified while in West Jaintia Hills 47,622 of the total 63,768 households have power connectivity.
The statistics also said that in West Khasi Hills there are 62,147 households and 39,440 households have been electrified.
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Power, has achieved yet another milestone in village electrification, where out of 18,452 un-electrified villages, over 13,000 have been electrified under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
A May 1, 2018 target has been set to electrify another 4,481 villages.
