Shillong: To commemorate World Peace Day, the Lou Majaw Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture observed the occasion with poetry and music at Andante Music School, Laitumkhrah.
Several music bands including Haystack Ladies, an all ladies band from Tura, Tengnang D Sangma, the Fourth Element, Empirical Tribe, Nexus, Twilight a newly formed band from Jowai, Felixes and Lou Majaw himself rocked the crowd with their excellent musical forte.
Opening the show veteran musician Lou Majaw said that music unites hearts and where there is music there can never be ill will and conflict. It is with the intention of spreading peace through music that Lou organised this special show on World Peace Day.
However, Lou also said this was an occasion to showcase the young musicians whose talents are often hidden for want of a platform.
Andante has become a popular ambience for a small, cosy audience.
It was the venue for a musical performance on World Music Day on June 21, this year.
Peace rally conducted
The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides (MBSG) conducted a route march on the occasion of International Day of Peace on Thursday in which over 200 students took part to chant for world peace.
The march which was flagged off from MBSG office at Pine Mount Ridge, Laban saw the participation of 16 schools from across Shillong.
At the rally, chants of “We want world peace,” “We are peace messengers”, resounded on the road during busy morning hours as the participants rallied all the way to Khyndailad and back to the office.
Prior to the route march, Director of Sports and Youth, Matsiewdor War, chief guest of the programme, urged the youth to focus on promoting peace and denounce terror.
She lauded the efforts of the MBSG in taking the initiative to organise the rally.
Later there was a pledge taking ceremony by the members of MBSG, a graffiti handprint competition, poetry and singing competition.
USTM observes International Peace Day
The University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya observed ‘International Peace Day’ on Thursday at Techno City on the outskirts of Guwahati where representatives from all faiths addressed a large gathering of students and teachers in presence of administrative officials of the University and ERD Foundation.
The religious guides from various faiths urged the students to understand the importance of retaining peace and harmony in the world.
