JOWAI: Thousands of villagers from more than 55 villages under Narpuh Elaka demanded the Head-Quarter of the Wapung C&RD Block should be shifted to Lumshnong village from Wapung as per government notification dated January 9, 2018.
During the public hearing conducted by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, held on Tuesday at Lumshnong village, headmen, local pressure groups and locals have demanded that the Block Office should be located at Lumshnong for the benefits of the people of Border Area.
“People of Narpuh Area will face difficulties if the Block Office is located at Wapung village. People from Rattacherra, Huroi and Hingaria cannot afford to reach the BDO Office at Wapung in term of Distance and expenditures,” said the headman of Umkiang.
The Public hearing was presided over by DC F.M. Dopth in the presence of his sub-ordinate officers and Government advocates. Prominent residents of the area including the Dolloi and others were also present to share their views on the issue.
Local MDC Desous Pohshna and Local MLA Shitlang Pale were also present. They supported the demand of the Narpuh people to shift the Block office from Wapung to Lumshnong.
Earlier, a similar public hearing was also conducted at Wapungskur where the people of the area from 74 villagers strongly opposed the shifting of the Block office to Lumshnong.
It may also me noted that the Office of the Block Development Officer was shifted to Wapung From Khliehriat and for reasons best known to the C&RD Department another order was issued for shifting the BDO office from Wapung to Lumshnong despite that one of the office building have been constructed at Wapungskur.
