SHILLONG: Meghalaya Government would now try to promote tourism through Ayush treatment besides treating people for several diseases.

The issue was discussed with the Kerala Government during the visit of Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek to that state recently.

Hek said that the State Government would like to take up Ayush treatment in a big way like Kerala which would also attract tourists and the State Government has a vision of promoting Ayush by way of advancing in the running of health care practices of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy hospitals, clinics etc.

Reacting to a query, Hek said that many people in the state have now started going to Ayush doctors and clinics which is a positive indication.

It may be mentioned that the even the Central Government is trying to promote Ayush in a big way which would also attract foreign tourists as many tourists will be attracted to India for yoga.

Meanwhile, Hek during his visit to Kerala also met the Union Minister of State for Tourism, KJ Alphonse and they discussed about the idea of organising Megha festival in the state to promote tourism.
