Army help accident-hit polling officials

GUWAHATI: The Army have provided medical treatment to three Assam police personnel and a civilian officer who were on election duty and met with an accident near Bokajan Village in Karbi Anglong district during the night of 18/19 April.

A Defence source informed that an ill-fated Assam Police vehicle was escorting vehicles carrying EVM machines when it met with an accident.

A request was received by the Army from ADG Assam Police (Law and Order), to provide necessary assistance to the three policemen and one civilian who were injured in the accident.

Army immediately swung into action and the Military Hospital at Dimapur was alerted. Patients who had multiple head and chest injuries, on arrival were immediately resuscitated and admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. A surgical team attended to the patients and provided necessary treatment. It has now been confirmed by the Army that condition of all the patients was stable and they were out of danger.
