SHILLONG: BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai said the central party leaders have agreed to recommend his name for the cabinet berth in the NPP-led MDA government once his colleague and cabinet minister AL Hek completes his two-and-a-half year term.
Speaking to reporters, Shullai said soon after the Assembly elections in 2018, the central leaders, who came to his house as part of government formation, made a commitment that there will be rotation of cabinet berth as the representation of the BJP in the ministry can be only one.
“At that point of time, Hek had expressed the desire to be inducted first and as he was a senior member, I agreed”, Shullai said.
According to Shullai, whenever he used to meet the central leaders, they gave assurance of inducting him as the cabinet minister.
“Recently, when I met many central leaders in New Delhi, they remembered the promise made to me”, he said.
Shullai is currently holding the post of chairman of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
Earlier, Hek had said he would abide by the decision of the party regarding giving up his berth to Shullai.
Hek, however, is not aware of any past agreement regarding sharing of cabinet berth among the two MLAs.
