SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a 100-point roster system to implement 4 per cent reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Though the state government, in 2017, had approved the Meghalaya State Policy for Empowerment of Persons with Disability (PWD) by virtue of which job quota for the PWDs in the government sector was increased to 4% from 3%, the PWDs could not take advantage of the same since the state did not have a roster system, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Sangma explained that one job out of every 25 post should go to persons with disability as per the reservation policy. “Normally, job advertisements will be for 10 posts. We never have advertisements for 25 posts or 100 posts,” he said.
Implementation of the roster system will allow accumulative counting of the number of vacant posts which have been advertised and now for every 25 post one will be reserved for the PWDs, the chief minister added.
