IIM to hold e-symposium on handloom today

SHILLONG: The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research & Analysis under the aegis of IIM Shillong will organise an e-symposium on handloom on Monday.
Union minister Smriti Zubin Irani will grace the e-symposium as the chief guest.
Chairman of BoG, IIM Shillong, Shishir Bajoria, Founder & MD, Fabric Plus, Dilip Barooah national president, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Jahnabi Phookan, among others will attend the e-symposium.
The e- symposium will be organised with an aim to ideate and create appropriate ambience, to discuss and deliberate on the current status of the handloom sector and arrive at specific interventions, to fill the existing gaps through strengthening and capitalising on the strengths of the rich tradition and heritage of handloom in the Northeastern states.
“Currently, the Centre is progressively engaged in the policy-related work in development planning of six critical sectors in the North East states viz., logistics, tourism, horticulture, handicraft, handloom and business process outsourcing,” a statement on Sunday said.
