Meghalaya-Assam border meet

NONGPOH: A joint meeting on Meghalaya-Assam border related issues on Friday decided to maintain status quo and allow develop-mental activities to complete peacefully.
The meeting was held at the Circuit house, Nongpoh and was presided by Ri Bhoi DC Rosetta Mary Kurbah.
Along with the DC, C Syrti, Superintendent of Police Ri Bhoi, ADCs and officials from the Land Records and Survey of the district also attended the meeting, while the West Karbi Anglong District, Assam, was represented by Deputy Commissioner SD Rahman, M Talukdar, Superintendent of Police, West Karbi Anglong, GS Sarmah, ADC Kamrup, SA Saikia, Additional SP, and other officials.
The issues taken up during the meeting were handing over the list of the on-going development works implemented by both the governments of Meghalaya and Assam along the inter-state border and to honour the decision taken up in the earlier meetings which is to maintain status quo and allow  developmental activities implemented on the border by both sides particularly the projects which are time-bound in nature so that the schemes are completed successfully  and timely for the overall development of the border people of Meghalaya and Assam; sharing of intelligence reports to prevent inter-border criminal activities and extremists and to promote a sense of security to the people residing along the inter-state border; Border Magistrate level meeting, Superintendent of Police level meeting and OC level meeting to be held regularly in time to come. Other issues like IPPI & IMI of the health sector were also discussed.
Speaking at the meeting, Kurbah highlighted the basic objective of the meeting was to ensure that developmental works in the border areas in both the states are taken up peacefully for the benefit and welfare of the people living all along the border and to also maintain law and order.
