STP puts into effect new traffic arrangement

SHILLONG: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP), on Monday, started a new traffic regulation in Police Bazar where road connecting Umsohsun Junction and Sadar Thana Road was open for vehicular traffic on a trial basis.
It may be mentioned that the STP has advised all motorists, residing in Umsohsun, Wahingdoh and adjoining areas, to use the said road. The particular stretch of road is thronged by thousands of people every day. A police official said that there was a bit of confusion on the first day with regard to the new rule, however, people gradually started to get the hang of it.
Asked about the hawkers present on the entire stretch, the cop said that the they have also reduced their space as vehicles started plying on the route.
With regard to broken tiles on the road, the official said that the repair work is a lookout of the state PWD.
It was also informed that only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be allowed to ply on the said road throughout the day .
Under this trial rule, all LMVs will enter from Khyndailad Junction and vehicles can either exit through Umsohsun junction towards Umsohsun road and GS Road or from Sadar Thana road.
There will be no entry from Sadar Thana junction towards Alpine Hotel, Police Bazaar and from Umsohsun junction towards Dreamland, Police Bazaar Road.
