Malaysian police rescue 30 hostages

Kuala Lumpur: Thirty kindergarten children and their teachers, who were held hostage by a hammer-wielding man, were on Thursday rescued by Malaysian police which stormed the school after firing teargas in Muar town in Johor Bahru state. “We have ended the hostage crisis.

The children and teachers are safe,” a police official said. The children have been taken to the hospital for a check up.

The Star newspaper reported that police shot tear gas before entering the school, ending seven-hour long hostage crisis. It said the man was believed to have been injured.

The man initially told police negotiators to give him a gun or he would kill the kids. (PTI)
