Job without a job

SHILLONG: They have the job in hand but no place to work — as many as 17 ‘typists’ appointed recently at Meghalaya Secretariat are regularly seen sitting in the corridor doing nothing for the past one month.

These newly appointed typists received their appointment letters but they are still waiting for their specific assignments (posting).

It has been observed that they would sit at the corridor right from 10 am till the end of the office hours.

The Secretariat Administration Department (SAD) allegedly has not shown any kind of urgency to assign the task to these employees.

SAD Minister JA Lyngdoh was caught unawares when asked about the non-working employees.

“I was never informed about this problem. If they have got their appointment letters I do not see any justification in delaying their posting,” Lyngdoh said on Thursday.

He, however, assured to look into the matter.

Of the total 45 candidates, declared successful by the MPSC, 33 have received their posting so far.

The MPSC declared the results in February this year after conducting a typing speed test in October 2010.
