SHILLONG: In what could be termed as a proud moment for the State, Biningstar Lyngkhoi has been selected to represent India in the 20th Asian Marathon Championship 2011, scheduled to be held at Pattaya, Thailand on July 17.

When contacted over telephone from Pune on Wednesday, Biningstar, who is now with the Services Sports Control Board in Pune, confirmed that he is going to represent the country in the event.

He informed that he would leave for Pattaya on Thursday with three other athletes including two woman athletes who would also participate in the event.

The event is being organised to promote the tourism in Thailand, especially the Eastern Seaboard and Chonburi.

The winner of the full, half and quarter marathon would be felicitated with HM King’s cup.

Lyngkhoi represented the country in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, held in Delhi. He also emerged victorious at the Cold Coast Airport Marathon 2009, held in Australia.

In the 33rd National Games held in Guwahati, Bining completed the marathon with a new record timing of 2.17.32 in the 42.195 km stipulated.
