TURA: Tura police are probing the strange incident of a grenade explosion in the heart of the town on Wednesday night amid concerns of involvement of militant groups in the episode.

The surprising case is of the police being completely unaware of the explosion and getting into the investigation matter after the grenade’s ignition pin was found in the vicinity of the incident on Thursday afternoon.

Locals from Akonggre locality, near Tura Police Reserve and the super market complex, were surprised to hear a loud explosion in the dead of the night on Wednesday but did not venture out. The explosion occurred on a stream below the Nepali colony at Akonggre but did cause any damage. The next morning, locals informed the police about a strange sound prompting them to investigate the matter. It was only after 2 pm on Thursday that investigators revealed the findings. It was confirmed that authorities had found the ignition pin of the grenade in the vicinity of the blast. While no one was injured it is believed that attempt was made to create a fear psychosis among the general population of the town involved in business.
