Organisations protest against big dams

Guwahati: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Sautrday led 25 other organizations in a massive demonstration here on various issues, ranging from big dams to updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Members of the organizations, mainly students and youth groups of various ethnic and other communities, participated in a ‘Gana Pratibad Yatra’ in the city in support of their demands.

The protestors wanted an immediate halt in the works of big dams and said small hydel power projects could also be sufficient to meet power demand.

They also raised the issue of early updation of the NRC, pointing out that it was imperative to safeguard the identity of the indigenous people. (UNI)
