SHILLONG: With an aim to enlighten people especially those living in rural areas on mainstreaming HIV, the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) organised a two-day state-level training for Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers of Meghalaya in city, which concluded on Thursday.

Resources persons and facilitator from MACS delivered their speeches on topics relating to the basic facts on HIV/AIDS, fighting stigma and discrimination, testing, treatment and child care and others. Around 35 ASHA workers from all over the state took part in the training programme.

It may be mentioned that there are more than 800 ASHA workers in the State and each ASHA worker has her own respective office.

Christine E Marbaniang of MACS said “We will conduct a follow-up programme on the issue next year. This way we can spread awareness among people about HIV/AIDS and ways to prevent it”.
