Islamabad: Pakistani authorities are set to extradite Umar Patek, the alleged mastermind of the Bali bombings, to Indonesia, a media report said on Wednesday.
Patek, 41, was arrested in March in the garrison city of Abbottabad, where US special forces killed Osama bin Laden during a covert raid on May 2.
Patek is suspected of having acted as the field coordinator and planner of the 2002 suicide bombings in two nightclubs in Bali that killed 202 people, most of them Australian holidaymakers.
Geo News channel quoted its sources as saying that Patek would be extradited to Indonesia later on Wednesday.
There was no official word on the development. Indonesian authorities have sought the extradition of Patek to uncover his network in that country.
Pakistan had reportedly invited Indonesian investigators to identify and question Patek days after his arrest was confirmed. Patek alias Abu Sheikh or Umar Arab escaped from Indonesia in 2003.
The US had offered a reward of one million dollars for him. Following his capture by Pakistani security agencies, the Indonesian police had been negotiating with the Islamabad to extradite one of the most wanted militants in Southeast Asia.
Indonesian officials said they had been involved in discussions with Pakistani authorities for the extradition of Patek over the past few months. Patek is a suspected member of the Al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah. (PTI)
