Silver Jubilee celebrations of 12-Daloi Law College concludes

 JOWAI: The silver jubilee of Khad-ar Daloi Law College, Jowai which was established in 1986 came to end on Saturday.

Education Minister, RC Laloo and Additional Advocate General, KS Kynjin took part in the closing ceremony as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Prominent residents, students of various schools also attended the closing function held within the college hall.

The year-long silver jubilee celebration witnessed various competitions including debate and chess. On the closing day, Laloo gave away the prizes to winners in the debate and chess competition. He also released the souvenir of the law college.

Khad-ar Daloi Law College was established in 1986 with an aim to provide opportunity to the people of Jaintia Hills to study law and to be equipped with legal education and knowledge.

The law college in Jaintia Hills was started with the initiative of some prominent residents of the district who at that time decided to form a society for the study of law which is functioning as the governing body till date. It has produced many law graduates.

Narrating shortly t on how the college started 25 years ago, the Secretary of the Society for the study of Law, JB Laloo informed that the college was inaugurated by the then education Minister, RC Laloo.

Session of the first batch was started in the premises of the Government Boys High School with BR Laso as the first Principal.

Later it was shifted to HK Singh Memorial High School. Again in the year 1998 till 2007, the college was functional in a rented house at the old library building.

Through contribution of concern citizens and with the support of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) during JD Pohrmen as the CEM, a land was allotted to the Society for Study of Law and many years later a permanent building was constructed at the plot of land.

With the initiative taken by the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, the college constructed the college building and a basket ball court.

Since the college is purely run by the Society for Study of Law without any government assistance, speakers at the closing function requested concerned citizens of the district to extend their helping hand so that the college can proceed ahead.

The Additional Advocate General, KS Kynjin while speaking on the occasion, he recalled the contribution by different people of Jaintia Hills and also his colleague from Shillong Bar Association who had played a vital role in the inception stage of the college.

Dr. RC Laloo congratulated the member of the Society for Study of Law who has committed heart and soul to see that the college run and reached a mile stone which completed 25 years of it yeoman service for the people of the district and the state in the field of legal education.

“legal education is very important and I will always extend my supports toward the welfare of the college and hope that the college will go from strength to strength in the years to come’, Dr. Laloo said.

President of the Society, Dr. Philomath Passah chaired the closing function while Lecture of Kiang Nangbah College, R. Lamarr delivered a vote of thanks.
