SHILLONG: The KSU Mawlai Circle apprehended around 50 illegal migrants who failed to produce documents to prove their identity and reliability at Mawlai Mawiong rim here on Monday.

The organisation conducted a surprise checking on infiltration of illegal migrants to Mawlai area at Mawlai Mawiong rim where they apprehended around 50 households who have been residing in the area on rent and employed on contractual basis.

The migrants lacked the possession of legal documents to prove their nationality and identity.

The KSU has given them a week time to make avail the specific documents failing of which they will be driven out of the locality.

“We conducted the inspection as there has been instances where these migrants turned out to be miscreants already having a black mark on their record, and we cannot risk such kind of incidents for the protection of the people and the whole of Mawlai as a whole”, KSU Mawlai Circle president, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh told reporters here on Monday.

It is learnt that the association had been conducting such inspections in various parts of Mawlai starting from Mawlai Mawdatbaki wherein they managed to apprehend around 10 migrants who failed to produce the legal documents.

Kharlyngdoh informed that they will continue to conduct such inspections to ensure safety and security of the people living in the area.

The students’ body has also urged the people of Mawlai to thoroughly check for legal documents before recruiting or giving rent to migrants.
