Kohima: Nagaland Chief Secretary Lalthara on Tuesday emphasised the need of durable roads throughout the state and the roads to be given to maintain to the private contractors for five years who will construct the road.
He said the roads and improvement of road communication is one of the topmost priority of the state government.
However, the National Highway has been badly damaged in natural disasters like landslides, which need a thorough study to make it durable. He also said time had come to think about two another roads other than NH 29. He opined that the National and State Highways should be given to the contractors in parts and the maintenance of the entire part would go to the contractors for five years, which would provide better roads for transportation. Asked about some of the trucks carrying goods beyond its capacity, he admitted that due to the lack of Weigh Bridge some of the trucks were taking advantage, thus damaging the roads. (UNI)
