IMPHAL: Following the demand for creation of more revenue districts, the Manipur government has set up Committee on Reorganisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries (CRAPDB) to study and review the present district boundaries, official sources said on Friday.

The decision to set up CRAPDB was taken during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, sources said, adding that Chief Secretary D S Poonia would be the chairman of the committee.

They said the CRAPDB would study the district boundaries as well as jurisdictions of police stations before submitting its report to the government.

CRAPDB would submit its report within three months, they said.

Other members of the Committee include the DGP, principal secretary (rural development) and commissioners of home, hills and revenue departments.

Various organisations have been demanding the conversion of Kuki-majority Sadar Hills area in Senapati district and Meitei-majority Jiribam sub-division in Imphal East district into full-fledged revenue districts.

Sadar Hills District Demand Committee, spearheading the agitation for a full-fledged revenue district, has imposed a one-month economic blockade on two national highways — Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati (NH 39) and Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar (NH 53) — since August 1. (More)Some Naga organisations, including United Naga Council, opposing the creation of Sadar Hills district also imposed economic blockade on the two highways about two weeks ago to protest creation of Sadar Hills district.

Reports from markets said prices of essential commodities have shot up due to the blockade.

Petrol was being sold at Rs 120 per litre in black market while prices of other items have also gone up. (PTI)
