NONGSTOIN: On a survey of the District Urban Affairs at Nongstoin recently, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle found that this particular government office has done nothing in implementing the developmental programmes in the district as till now there is no permanent place for the people of Nongstoin to dump the garbage.

The KSU Nongstoin Circle has demanded the State Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to take action in this regard as all the garbage from Nongstoin is dumped randomly by the people anywhere and everywhere.

Informing the media persons, president of the Union John Milton Wahlang said, “Earlier, it was informed that the government will construct a place for dumping of garbage at Mawkadiang in Nongstoin, but till now nothing has come up.”

During the survey, the staff of the office told the Union that different schemes from the office could not be implemented as there is no Executive Engineer (EE), where as the Assistant Engineer who is present does not have the authority to do the job of the EE and all the work has to be done from Shillong.

Wahlang said that the tender for any work at Nongstoin is being called from Shillong. “The Urban Affairs at Nongstoin cannot function as all the works have to do it from Shillong.”

He added that the staffs also did not come to office regularly due to lesser work to do, except the peon who is present everyday for looking after the office.

Further, the KSU Nongstoin Circle demanded the concerned minister to keep one permanent EE at the office and to also bring developmental schemes for the district.
