SHILLONG: The BSF has accused that the headman of Kowatar Basti is indulging in trans-border crimes along the Indo-Bangla border.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the BSF PRO said a special BSF party on August 26 seized Bangladeshi melamine dinner set and other items worth Rs 67,655 from a Tata Sumo (ML-04-8454) near Kowatar Basti ( by the side of Parang river bridge) in Jaintia Hills.
The BSF also detained two persons — Kzarkimi Hadia (driver) and Kyrman Swar. “However, villagers of Kowatar Basti gheraoed the BSF party and prevented the BSF party to take the seized items,” the statement said.
The villagers said these items were meant for the headman of Kowatar Basti and both driver and attendant of the vehicle were innocent.
Finding no other option, the BSF party had to leave behind the driver and the attendant, but managed to take the seized items with them, the statement said.
“This incident has brought to light an unholy nexus between the headman and some influential persons of border villages,” the BSF statement added.
