SHILLONG: Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guards (DGCD&HG) WR Marbaniang, who will formally retire on Wednesday, is looking forward to spend his time as an interior designer after his retirement.
“I have always enjoyed doing interior designing as a hobby. But I would like to take up some assignment on to keep myself busy post retirement,” Marbaniang told reporters after the farewell parade on Tuesday.

When asked about his most memorable posting during his 36-year-long career in the police, Marbaniang said his most cherished posting was in Garo Hills.
“During my posting in Garo Hills, I was tasked to set up of the 2nd MLP Battallion. Initially, it was a tough call to form a battalion but in the end it was satisfying to see the progress and the manner in which the battalion has turned into a good fighting unit,” he said.
Marbaniang said he also enjoyed his stint as the Director General of Police.
“I took over as the DGP when the HNLC was at its peak. By the time I was transferred, the militant outfit was on the wane. This kind of result gives immense satisfaction to any police officer,” he said.
When asked if he had any regrets, Marbaniang said he did not have any but he is definitely honoured to have served the State and the nation as a whole.
Marbaniang, who is popularly known to many as “Bah Bill”, joined the Indian Police Service in 1975. In his long illustrious career, Marbaniang has served in different positions.
