London: Hollywood star Hilary Duff has been given a USD 1,00,000 payout to not appear in the upcoming Bonnie and Clyde remake.
The 23-year-old singer-actress was to star in the remake of the 1967 Warren Beatty classic about the infamous American Depression crime duo, but was dropped out because of her pregnancy, reported Daily Mail.
According to a clause in the actress’ contract, if the producers decided to drop her, they would have to pay the sum as compensation. “I don’t want to give them any more press than they’ve already gotten off me. I think my baby is a little bit more exciting,” said Duff.
The bosses of the movie had earlier approached Amanda Seyfried for the role and after she declined the offer they had finalised Duff. The remake was announced in early 2009, and Duff’s casting was immediately derided by the original star, Faye Dunaway. “Couldn’t they at least cast a real actress?,” said Dunaway.
Duff had retaliated, saying, “I think that my fans that are going to see the movie, don’t even know who she is, so you know. I think it was a little unnecessary but I might be mad if I looked like that now too.” (PTI)
