Stray bullets hit girls near BSF camp

Agartala: A 14-year-old girl has sustained serious bullet injuries in Harinakhala along the Indo-Bangladesh border under Sidhai Police Station of Agartala when she was plucking chillies from the field.

The victim, Dipa Sukladas (14), was shifted to Agartala Government Medical College last night where doctors stated her to be critical, as one of the bullets hit her lower abdomen and another her leg.

According to police, Dipa was hit by the stray bullets yesterday but there was an allegation against Border Security Force 61 battalion, who had been using the firing range as per of periodical testing of fire arms close to the place of occurrence. The victim’s family alleged that a BSF jawan had fired upon Dipa under the influence of liquor.

They also lodged a complaint against the BSF jawans posted in the area that they had organised a party in the sideline of arm testing where another 40 jawans from Teliamura headquarters also attended the programme and added that the villagers were not happy with BSF activities over the past few months.
