Rahul returns home after visiting Sonia abroad

NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi returned to Delhi on Monday after visiting his mother Sonia Gandhi, who is abroad recuperating after a surgery, party sources said.A senior Congress leader said that Rahul Gandhi will be attending the Lok Sabha in the coming days, especially when the land acquisition bill is introduced.The Gandhi scion, who made a speech about the fast by Anna Hazare and the Lokpal bill during zero hour in the Lok Sabha Aug 26, did not participate in the special discussion on the bill the next day.There has not been any update on the return of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who underwent a surgery abroad on August 4 for an undisclosed disease.Earlier, Congress chief spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi had said that Sonia Gandhi is likely to return home by the first week of September.  Nitish takes a jibe at Lalu

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday took a jibe at his arch rival RJD chief Lalu Prasad saying Prasad who was caught napping in the Lok Sabha, had woken up three months after the police firing in Forbesganj and undertaken a march there.”Wherever and whenever Lalu wants to sleep he can sleep but in Parliament”, Kumar told reporters.Referring to Prasad’s recent Forbesganj March to meet the bereaved families of those who were killed in June 3 police firing, Kumar dared Prasad to tour the state and find out the shortcomings on the part of the government.The chief minister said being an Opposition leader, it was his (Lalu’s) duty to discharge the responsibilities of opposing the government and highlighting the shortcomings.(PTI)

 Hospital turns into wedding mandap

KOCHI:It was a wedding with a difference as a private hospital here was decked up to solemnise the wedding of one of its patients.The groom, Pratuyush, was injured in a motorbike accident days before his wedding. He fractured his left leg and is recovering after a surgery, hospital officials said, adding that it would take a few months for him to heal completely.When the hospital learnt that his marriage had been fixed for Sunday doctors, nurses and other staff decided to make it a memorable day for the young couple.Relatives and friends of the two families then decided to solemnise the wedding at the hospital itself.The first floor of the Specialist Hospital was converted into a wedding ‘mandap’ decorated with flowers and the groom was brought in on his wheelchair by his friends while the bride was brought in by hospital nurses and her relatives.The marriage was earlier scheduled to be held at Mahadeva temple at Haripad on Sunday.The bride later said the mishap could have occurred any time and it was decided to solemnise the wedding at the auspicious time.( PTI)

 BJYM stages protest against Omar’s statement on Afzal Guru

JAMMU:The BJP’s youth wing on Monday took out a protest rally and held demonstrations against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remarks on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.Led by BJYM state chief Muneesh Sharma, over 300 activists participated in the rally and also staged demonstration in Mehashpura area here.Accusing Omar of playing the communal card, the protesters demanded Centre’s intervention in the issue.
